Okay. I’m going to start off by saying that this post is way overdue. I’m talking almost a whole month overdue. Actually – scratch that. Let’s be real. You know this is over a month overdue because we all know that I am hopeless, utterly hopeless with getting around to posting tags. That doesn’t mean I won’t get around to doing them – it’s just that I like to be uber prepared and I have a monthly blogging scheduled that I like to stick to so sometimes that means some of my tags get pushed (temporary) to the back burner. That being said, being tagged in memes and awards literally makes my day so don’t think for one second that I don’t jump for joy and appreciate my nominations when I get that tag notification.
With that in mind, I think I owe Siobhan a long overdue shout out for tagging me for the Versatile Blogger Award. Sorry it took me so long to post! If you don’t already follow Siobhan be sure to check out her amazing blog Siobhan’s Novelties because she really is such a dedicated blogger and I love reading her reviews and posts. Thank you, Siobhan! ❤

I’m a creature of habit. My go to drink at Starbucks is a tall caramel frappuccino with a shot of coffee all topped with whipped cream and caramel syrup. I figure if I’m going to be bad I may as well do it thoroughly. Who ever heard of ordering a frappuccino with no cream??? At Christmas I’m a sucker for the Ginger Spice frappuccino because I consider it the taste of Christmas in a cup. Nothing else evokes the nostalgia. Trust me.
I hope this isn’t a cliche but my favorite place on earth is the original Disneyland in California. Hands down. What I would give to be able to be one of the face characters! Disney has always been a huge part of my life. I credit Disney for my love of film making, art and animation as well as bestowing me with my never fading sense of imagination and wonder. I can still remember the very first time I walked through the gates and was left awe-struck from the sheer magic and attention to detail. My favorite ride is the Jungle Cruise.
I have too many favorite Disney films and characters to list but my top three remain the same. My childhood Favorite was The Little Mermaid and Ariel. I loved her spirit and tenacity. She inspired me to follow my dreams no matter the cost. My favorite as an adult is Pocahontas; both the character and the film. I love the story and pallet of the film and Pocahontas’s adventurous spirit. Clearly there’s a pattern here. The character I relate to the most is actually Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I related to her passion for adventure and books but most of all I related to the fact that she never fit the mold society tried to force her into. Belle is loyal and kind – she taught me that it’s okay to be the odd ball and to stand apart.
My favorite series of all time is the Twilight Saga. Now before you all run at me with the torches and pitch forks – hear me out. Twilight was that series that came to me at the exact moment I needed it. After all these years it still takes me back to the slightly awkward, hopeless romantic teen that I was in grade seven. Ahh, the nostalgia! In fact, Twilight really changed my life, shaping me into the person you see today. Now twenty one, my morals and ideas on love, sex and marriage can all be traced back to those books and for that they will always have a place in my heart.
I am actually a Titanic historian. Okay, I might not have the qualifications to prove it so technically it’s not official but the maritime disaster that was the sinking of the RMS Titanic is one topic that never fails to intrigue me. If you don’t believe me you should see my collection of non-fiction novels, documentaries and my own personal essays on the sinking and the cause. I even have an exact replica of a first class White Star Line tea cup and saucer, so no – it’s not just because of Leonardo’s portrayal of Jack Dawson in the film. Titanic’s legacy forever altered sea travel, sparking the much needed reforms in maritime safety. And also, have you seen the exploration of the wreck? Titanic was simply majestic. A famous case of man’s hubris. One day I hope to dive (no, not literally – I’m talking sea lingo here) the wreck myself.
I am a firm believer that music is the soundtrack to our lives. That being said, my iPod and taste in music is so dang random. If you picked up my iPod and browsed my collection of music you’d struggle to find how my genres all fit together. I love contemporary and alternative artists such as Lana Del Rey and BORNS but then I have a huge selection of film scores and soundtracks. On the other hand is my obsession with Disney music and musical theater. Then there’s my love for David Bowie. At this moment, my most played songs are; Lovers by Anna of the North, The Phantom of the Opera by Sierra Boggess and Ramin Karimloo, China Girl by David Bowie, Born to Die by Lana Del Rey, Slow Burn by David Bowie and Holy Ghost by BORNS. In that order. What did I tell you – random! 😉
I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression in the past and I am not ashamed. Mental illness is something I am very vocal about, maybe not always on my blog but I am a huge advocate for highlighting just how common mental illness is. I believe life is always about waves, it’s constant. Anxiety, depression – these are not illnesses but emotions we all experience on a daily basis. We will all have times of happiness which are often followed by a low. Highs and lows – what did I tell you? Waves. These are normal emotions and it shouldn’t be taboo to talk openly about. You just need the courage to accept that the low can’t last forever, you are safe and you will be okay. Just breath and remember I am always here if you need a friend. ❤

Love this post, Lexxie! What got me the most is the Titanic part! Wow. I commend how passionate you are about it and it inspired to be passionate about something too (other than reading of course!) ☺️

Awww, thank you so much ❤ Some call my passion an obsession but I guess we all have our hobbies and whatnot. Mine just happen to be extremely nerdy! I am a sucker for an unsolved mystery and I just can't stop researching and learning until I get to the bottom of it.

Glad I’m not the only one! 😉 I mean, they aren’t extremely profound but they are my number one guilty pleasure. I just adore curling up and bingeing the series in winter!

Thank you so much Brianna ❤ – I love getting to know my fellow bloggers too which is why tags and awards are such great opportunities. I also really appreciate your support. Things have been well for a while now but we do all have those pesky bad days. Mental Health really is important to share because when we do open up about it most times we find it's a lot more common than we think. We really aren't alone at all. xx

Thank you for speaking about your mental illness. I agree wholeheartedly with what you said. The more we talk about the more we can lend a shoulder and support one another.
I loved getting to know you a little more too, can’t wait to do this tag! 🙈

Oh Carly – how could I not think of your lovely blog??? If any blog deserves recognition it’s yours! ❤
I actually didn't realize just how much positive feedback I'd get in the comments for mention mental health and I'm so glad to see the conversation rolling. It's always been this "hush, hush", taboo thing but what people just don't realize is that these so called "illnesses" are actually complex human emotions born from our survival or flight of fight instincts. The more we realize this the more we can manage our stress and emotions and feel positive.
I can't wait to see your post! xo

YES! I love that you are a fellow Twilight fan – no pitchforks here! Thanks for talking about mental health here. I have anxiety as well and hate when people act like its taboo! ❤

YAS! Now the important question… Team Edward or Team Jacob??? Beware, you’re answer might change our friendship – Just kidding! … Or am I? 😉
It’s funny how when we open up about our struggles with Anxiety we realize that it’s actually so common. More common than we might think. If Anxiety didn’t have that “taboo” stigma it wouldn’t be such a huge problem. Mental health is such a “behind closed doors” topic and it really shouldn’t be. If you ever need to talk or unload I’m always here with open ears. ❤ ❤

Lovely read! 😀 Great to meet a fellow Disney fan & thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on anxiety. It’s still got a huge stigma attached which hopefully we can lessen by being more open about dealing with it. Really enjoyed this! Hope you have a lovely weekend. ❤

Thank you for reading! It really does have a bad stigma doesn’t it? It’s actually so good to see that more and more people are opening up and addressing the issue now. Mental illness isn’t as difficult to navigate when you’ve got a supportive family and friends.
