The Mystery Blogger Award

Reading By Starlight Award Banner (1).png

How excited are you guys for the weekend? I know I’ve been holding out for a lazy day – I have so much house work and blogging to catch up on plus I can’t wait to get in some serious reading [my TBR pile is actually borderline ridiculous] and a little self care.

First thing’s first – I want to send some love Siobhan’s way for nominating my little blog for the Mystery Blogger Award. Siobhan is one of my dearest friends in the community so be sure to check out her reviews and fantastic discussions over at Siobhan’s Novelties.

Before I get into the tag, just what is the Mystery Blogger Award? Let me tell you – this is such a beautiful idea for a blog award! This award celebrates discovering new blogs and inspiring posts and nothing is better than showing off my bookish friend’s stunning blogs because each of them works so hard.

In the creator’s own words; “The Mystery Blogger Award is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; and they do it with so much love and passion.”

Before I get into the award, I just have a quick, short update for you guys. Just so you know what’s happening with Reading By Starlight and why I’ve changed my posting schedule slightly.

Basically, the short hand [short hand? *scoffs*] is this; honestly, the past few weeks have been exhausting. With my mum now a married woman, I am renting the family house and juggling all that comes with it. I’m scraping to find time what with work, blogging, shopping and home making – it’s a huge adjustment for a twenty-two-year-old and a big change. While I’ve never felt so independent and capable in my life, now that the excitement and novelty has worn off it’s been challenging and I’m feeling the burn at all ends. So while I might be posting weekly instead of twice a week at the moment, please know that I’m not losing motivation or inspiration! I’m still stalking all your blogs and I want to give you the best quality posts here on my blog – I’m just adjusting to my new routine!

Okay – back to the Mystery Blogger Award…

Three Things About Me:

☆ I love all things vintage. I’m talking vintage hair, vintage makeup, the roaring fashion, the music and the sweeping films. I’m all about Old Hollywood Glamour, often modeling my style after the iconic women from the golden age like Audrey Hepburn and Vivien Leigh. Somehow I suspect I was born into the wrong era…

☆ I am currently working on multiple manuscripts for a novel because I seriously have no chill. That and unfortunately I am the biggest mood writer on the darn planet. I dream of one day having one of my stories sitting on a shelf in a bookshop. At the moment, I’m happy just dabbling and finding my personal voice so I have no rush to publish. First I have to work out how to shut out my inner critic but maybe one day soon…

☆ When I’m not reading or writing you can always find me exploring the city-scape and night life of Melbourne. Melbourne is the fashion capitol [and the arts capitol] of Australia and such an underrated city. Nothing compares to strolling down the lane-ways taking in the iconic street art or shopping on Collins Street. You’ll often find me sitting in one of Melbourne’s many coffee houses or browsing the shelves in my favorite book stores.

Siobhan’s Questions:

1. If you had to describe yourself in three characters, which ones would they be?

Why is this question so dang hard? let me see… The first character that comes to mind is Belle from Beauty and the Beast. If I don’t have my nose stuck in a book, I’m defiantly pondering adventures in the great wide somewhere… Then I guess  Celaena Sardothien [even though I’ll never be that badass] because like Celaena, I had a turbulent upbringing that left it’s fair share of scars. Finally, I have a good heaping of Cath from Fangirl in me. I’m talking her awkwardness and her tendency to lose herself in her writing and fandom.

2. Which fictional character has scared you the most in your life?

Oooooooh – good question, Siobhan! Look, I don’t think I’ve ever come across a fictional character who’s scared me in the sense of I-can’t-sleep-because of-anxiety-and-nightmares [I don’t really read horror] but I think the one character who I felt truly uneasy reading about was Amarantha from A Court of Thorns and Roses. I don’t really know what this says about me, but as a villain, I loved her character. Amarantha was such an unhinged, crazy, psychopathic bitch making her one seriously messed up character and all round unsettling.

3.What upcoming movie are you anticipating the most or are scared to watch?

Hands down, hands down Aladdin. I am so excited for the live action remake because Aladdin has always been one of my favorite Disney films. I mean, the sweeping desert setting, the soaring music and that exotic pallet is enough to make Aladdin one of Disney’s most iconic classics. From the new trailer alone, the live action Aladdin promises not to disappoint in those departments [did you see Jasmine’s costumes!?! Major heart eyes!].

4. Which fictional character would you put a curse on?

A curse you say??? Hmmm… I am so putting a curse on Maeve because that bitch deserves some serious cursing after Kingdom of Ash! I would curse Maeve with an eternity of misery in the boiling fires of hell.

5. If you could humiliate a character for whatever reason (it had better good), who would it be and how would you do it?

Okay – I know that my go-to-answers for this tag all seem to stem from Sarah J. Maas books but how could I not take this chance to humiliate Tamlin the Tool??? But how to do it??? *scratches head* I’d like to think that I could concoct some wild scheme, taking a page from Celaena Sardothien’s book but let’s be real here – I’m just not that badass. I’d probably do something juvenile and/or petty like having someone deck him or hang him by his underwear from a flag post. Or I could always set him up on a date only to have said date be a drag queen – you know, the usual petty stuff.

    • I’m sure it will, as everything it’s just an adjustment but change is fun! I’m just learning to juggle haha 😉

I am all about bookish heroines because I relate to them on a whole other level. Especially when said heroines don’t always feel comfortable in their own skin, or different from the rest. ❤
