The Sunshine Blogger Award is a peer nominated blog award that celebrates community love and positive energy. It’s a great opportunity to highlight those blogs dedicated to spreading sunshine and optimism. Once again, I am very grateful and humbled to have been nominated. This is my third nomination for this award which means so much to me – especially because Reading By Starlight celebrates uniqueness. I believe we always need more positive corners in this world. #spreadthelove.

Which brings me to the lovely Emma from A Few Chapters To Love. Emma is one of my favorite bookish people so please show her blog some love. Emma is the very definition of sunshine. I can always count on her to leave a lovely comment and I love fan-girling over books and ships with her. THANK YOU Emma for nominating me! *Sending hugs your way*. ❤

Where do you want to live? Do you think you will stay near where you grew up / where you are now?

I live in Melbourne Australia, Victoria’s vibrant, coastal capital. Since moving south, I’ve learned that Melbourne is the city of my heart. At this stage, I honestly can’t see myself living anywhere else. I love the coffee [which practically comes straight from the gods in Melbourne], I love the city’s cultured, laid-back vibe and I love the roaring nightlife.

But, Melbourne aside [most livable city anyone?], I do have a soft spot for the Californian coast. I’d be lying if I said I’ve never thought of moving to Laguna Beach.

What is one thing you don’t have with you right now that you wish you did?

I’ve recently learned [during the bush fires this summer that ravaged Australia] that trivial things are easily replaced. What can’t be replaced is family. I’ve been living alone for the past year so I guess my wish would be for a family game night. Cards Against Humanity is always the way to go. And I never lose.

What is your guilty pleasure book?

Gun to my head, the House of Night series by P.C. & Kristin Cast is my number one guilty pleasure. House of Night is such an underrated series, full of snarky banter and bickering, sexy vampyres and a cast of diverse characters. It’a a wild time but I live for the hi-jinks and general friendship drama.

Side note: remember when book trailers were a thing? #bringbackbooktrailers.

What is your horoscope today?

As if your sign weren’t ambitious enough, today’s Libra moon lights up your tenth house of career goals, lifting you up another rung on the ladder. Of course, you’ve got big intentions for the quarter—your competitive spirit wouldn’t have it any other way. But rather than overwhelming yourself by trying to achieve it all NOW, think in smaller bytes. What’s the most important thing you can do to move the needle this week? Get the momentum going there, and you’ll score a win to keep fuel in your tanks.

What is the craziest thing you and your friends have done together?

Okay, so last Christmas my work bestie and I, being obssessed with Frozen 2, got it in our heads that a duet of Let It Go during a karaoke party was the way to go. *Sighs*. Spoiler alert: it was not. And if our screeched rendition of Frozen wasn’t bad enough, after way too many drinks, we got up for an even worse delivery [who knew that was even possible???] of Bohemian Rhapsody. And there’s footage.

Basically, it was all down hill from “Galileo!“. *Face palm*. 😂

Current series that you are watching?

I’m currently low-key obsessed with Virgin River on Netflix. Criminally underrated, the series is heart-felt and wholesome with a Hallmark vibe. The ten-part series is set in the fictional sleepy town of Virgin River, located deep in the Californian redwoods. Mel Monroe, our series protagonist, is a nurse and midwife who runs away from her LA past to work at Virgin River’s small family practice. There she meets an eccentric cast of small-town characters and the seriously sexy for an older guy Jack Sheridan, the town’s bar keep.

Have you seen the Witcher? (IF YES DO YOU LIKE TOSS A COIN TO YOUR WITCHER?!?!)

Nope. I haven’t seen The Witcher. I get it – Henry Cavil is Hot™ but I’m not really into the whole Game of Thrones thing and The Witcher is throwing that kind of vibe. Change my mind.

Have you had enough water today, my good friends?

HAHAHA *slaps knee, wipes tear*. 😂😂😂

I’m going to put a big ol’ NOPE on that one. I know, I Know – I’m unhealthy. I just hate the taste of water? I basically live off tea and coke. Again, see: unhealthy. I’m trying to be better at drinking water. It’s actually one of my goals for this week – true story.

What is your favorite flower?

I’m a classic red rose kind of girl.

Who is your least favorite YA heroine?

Oh YAS – here we go *cracks knuckels*.

Once again I whipping out Wintersong because as if I don’t already drag the actual heck out of this book enough. Anyway, if you disliked Bella Swan [which I didn’t btw] then feast your eyes on freaking Lisel. Urgh. Lisel is the “ugly” sister. She’s bland, dull, seriously insecure and annoying AF as she whines and whines about her “ugly” appearance. Lord give me strength. The girl does absolutely NOTHING to help herself until the Goblin King comes along. Not even a freaking drip of female empowerment to be found here.

Who is your favorite animal sidekick in YA?

Last month I would have said Fleetfoot but seriously guys – can we please talk about Syrinx, Bryce Quinlan’s chimera? I haven’t even finished Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood [68% and LOVING it] and already Syrinx is my favorite. Well, Syrinx and those freaking Otter messengers.

    • AWWWWW THAT MAKES ME SO HAPPY! When people hear Australia they automatically think Sydney. Sydeny is like the Los Angeles of Australia – it’s touristy and dirty – and Melbourne is New York. Classier, cleaner and very cultured, Melbourne is such a beautiful city. We have these amazing lane ways where you can explore the street art while enjoying a bite to eat. We have incredible galleries and modern art and the actual best coffee in the country – it’s a fact. 😉

You most definitely have to come a visit one day – you will LOVE it!

And you’re most welcome! I can’t wait to read your answers ❤

  1. Ahh, Melbourne sounds so cool 😍! However, as an overly proud Californian lol and from what you said about Melbourne, I do think you’d love the California Coast if you ever decided move 😄. Also, Cards Against Humanity is the best game to play with friends and family (although it says a lot about you if you win 🤣). And the karaoke party sounds like a blast! If you’re not screeching Bohemian Rhapsody, what’s the point of being there?¿ Your answers are the best, Alexandra 😂!

(and thank you so much for the nomination! It means a lot 🙂💕)

    • Honestly, Melbourne is where it’s at – at least in Australia anyway! Take it from someone who’s lived in both Sydney and Melbourne. I’ve spent a lot of time travelling in California so I can 100% see your point on the similarities. You never know, one day you might just see me dancing on the Hollywood sign… 😉

And about Cards Against Humanity – I don’t think I even want to think about what winning says about me as a person! Apparently I’m despicable or something??? *insert evil laugh here*. 😂😂😂

Thank you for reading and you’re lovely comment as always – I can’t wait to read your answers! ❤

  3. I also LOVE Virgin River!!I binge-watched it over my winter break and now I try to get everyone to watch it! Sprinx is also a new favorite bookish pet of mine- I’m working on review for Crescent City right now! Can’t wait to answer your questions, thanks for the nom!

    • OMG YAS GIRL – A FELLOW VIRGIN RIVER FAN! ❤ It's literally like the best show. I love curling up with a glass of wine and an episode after work. Extra brownie points if it's a cold and/or rainy night to set the vibe. A tie-in-edition of the book is releasing at the end of the month and you just know I'll be reading it! 😉

And YAY for Sprinx – I freaking love him!!! I'll be sure to keep my eyes peeled for your review! I finished it last night and I am officially deceased. It'll be a few days before I can actually manage a semi-coherent review of my own!

      • I knew it was based on a book series, but I will SO be checking out that book!! Totally agree that it such a cozy show!

I believe my review is coming on next Friday- and it’s longgg (and I probably could’ve written more if I got into spoilers) so be prepared!!

    • It’s going to be a few days – I’m not going to lie. Spoiler alert: [Lol but not really] I am DECEASED after finishing it. I mean, the journey, the struggle – THE FREAKING FORESHADOWING. WHAT A MASTERPIECE!!! Basically you are in for one HELL of a ride and you’re going to LOVE it. Actually I kind of got this City of Bones on freaking steroids vibes in the best way. Feel free to message me when you start so we can rave! ❤ ❤ ❤

    • Haha I’m glad you appreciated my meme humor! I’ve just gotten into mindfulness journaling – your bullet journals actually inspired it – and my goal for this week is to drink a bottle of water a day. So far I’m doing pretty well but literally after one day of drinking water I was strutting around work like I was the pillar of health. 😂😂😂 That meme is actually an accurate depiction of my current mind state. #noshame.

      • I very much appreciate it. I never drink water at work, but I try to once I get home it is a 20% chance that it actually happens. 😂 Oh, I am so happy you found my bujo inspiring, I hope you enjoy using your mindfulness journal!

  4. Haha I live off water and nothing else! 😆😆 I can’t stand tea, coffee, soda, or milk, so water it is for me.

(Also I’m obsessed that you live in Australia. This American is constantly trying to do an Australian accent and failing.)

    • See I wish I could live off water. I’m trying at least!

And that makes me so happy to see that you love Australia. We’re so removed from the rest of the world down here that it feels very isolated. Especially because we all obsess over America and Europe. It nice to see that you guys obsess over us too! You’ll definitely have to come and visit one day – it’s a beautiful country and very different in it’s terrain and wildlife to the rest of the world. I literally see Kangaroos every day on my way to work. Imagine, walking down your street and there, across the road in the parkland are a family of kangaroos grazing and starring at you. But no, we don’t ride them to work… 😂😂😂
