It’s been two months now of lock down in Australia and while we’re starting to see those restrictions ease, life is still far from normal. I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to feel a little stir-crazy…

Just joking but not really.
So, while we’re still very much stuck inside, let’s think positive with the Stuck At Home Book Tag. This is a brand new tag created by the lovely Ellyn over at allonsythornraxx so be sure to give her post some love. Thank you so much for the tag, Ellyn! ❤

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading a couple of books because I actually don’t know the meaning of the word chill. I’m re-reading City of Glass because I’ve never finished the Mortal Instruments or the spin off trilogies for that matter and I’m feeling some serious FOMO.
I’ve also started Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf. After the first twelve pages I came to the realization that the protagonist Zera could actually stab me in the heart with a knife and I’d probably thank her for the honor. Let it be known that Zera is the sass QUEEN.
What’s your favorite ‘can’t-leave-the-house’ activity?
Reading, re-arranging my shelf, writing or Netflix and chilling [but like, actually chilling – I’m thinking a pint of Ben & Jerry’s and Virgin River]. To cliched??? To bad. #livingmybestlife
A book you’ve been meaning to read for forever
The Shadowhunter books [see: currently reading]. Here’s the deal – when I was seventeen-or-so I read City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass and City of Fallen Angles. And I liked them. A lot. I lived for the Clary/Jace angst how we were all just okay with this way-back-when in 2007???, worshiped the ground Isabelle Lightwood walked on and didn’t hate the film adaption. But then I met my match with City of Lost Souls. I just didn’t care anymore so I quit. Then, later on, I picked up the Infernal Devices and felt disconnected from the characters so I quit that too. [Side note: I’ve got a post featuring all my unpopular Shadowhunter opinions in the works].
Basically, I realized that Cassandra Clare just wasn’t for me and moved on with my life. Enter Chain of Gold and a serious case of FOMO and you’ve got yourself a second chance. The worst part? I’m actually enjoying myself this time.
An intimidating book on your tbr

How long have I been talking about reading Strange the Dreamer??? It’s been a hot minuet. I promise I’m getting to it, okay? It’s on my 2020 Back List so it’s going to happen. Probably. There’s just a LOT of hype and I’m easily intimidated by the hype train. Also Strange the Dreamer is DENSE so I need to be in the right mood before I tackle said beast.
Top 3 priority books on your tbr

In terms of new releases? Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer already dusted off that team Edward shirt, Blood and Honey by Shelby Mahurin and Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles.
Recommend a short book

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald because first of all, it’s a bona fide masterpiece and second of all, it clocks in at just one hundred and sixty pages. Also, who doesn’t wish they were born into the excessive decadence of the roaring twenties???
Recommend a long book

Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood isn’t the longest book I’ve read [we’ll leave that honor to Kingdom of Ash] but, it’s probably going to be the best book I read in 2020. Also, let’s be real – I’ll probably be re-reading it again some time this year. Crescent City is a sprawling, complex novel of epic proportions that blends urban fantasy with a murder-mystery/buddy-cop twist. And, I would like it noted that I was so freaking here for the sheer amount of cursing and swearing. Don’t know what that says about me as a person.
Something you’d love to do while stuck at home
So I actually made a list of 101 things I want to do while stuck at home and to be honest I’ve pretty much ticked all the boxes. Key words: pretty much. I still haven’t made tea sandwiches for a backyard picnic or watched the sunrise yet though – it’s been way to cold in Melbourne!
Actually, I really do want to play some quarantine D & D because not only am I seeing it everywhere but I feel like that it would be an interesting experience.
What do you plan on reading next?

Once I finish City of Glass, I want to read Nevernight by Jay kristoff. My US hardcover edition just arrived in the mail and let me tell you – it looks so freaking good in person. I’m super excited to finally launch myself into the Red Church – I’m all about assassins and wise-cracking protagonists who generally don’t-give-a-single-shit. Nevernight has my name plastered all over it.

I feel the exact same way about Strange the dreamer. It’s been on my list for a while

Haha, it’s just so intimidating! I’m worried that I’ll be that 0.09% who doesn’t click with it. I started reading it last year but had to put it down because I wasn’t in the right mindset. It’s the slowest of slow burns so I feel I need to be in the right mood. Here’s hoping we both finally read and love it this year! 💙

Love this tag and can’t wait to do it! Strange the Dreamer is such a great read- it’s the perfect blend of fantasy and bibliophile-love. I’d love to read Serpent and Dove this summer, so Blood & Honey might become a TBR priority of mine!

Okay, after that vote of confidence I really should make reading Strange the Dreamer a priority! I actually just read Serpent and Dove this month [finally jumped aboard the hype train] and absolutely loved it. I had a few minor issues with the world building but the characters, the religious overtones and forbidden romance was AH-MAY-ZING! I would highly recommend giving it a go! 💙

Will definitely share my Serpent & Dove thoughts with you! Can’t wait to see what you think of Strange the Dreamer!

I can’t wait for all your unpopular Shadowhunter opinions. I still to this day, don’t know how I made it through The Mortal Instruments. Luckily her later work has been worth it for me.
It’s been so long since I read Strange the Dreamer, but I can still vividly feel how much I love that series. I hope when you get to it the hype hasn’t ruined it!
Also heck yes, Blood and Honey is going to be AMAZING!!! I can hardly wait! Thanks for the tag Alex ❤

Hahaha – it’s defiantly coming! Probably once I finally read the whole series though, but we’ll see. I can promise that I have a LOT of seriously unpopular Shadowhunter opinions. Everyone will probably rock up to my house with their pitch forks! 😂
You know, I’ve actually had so many votes of confidence after posting this tag for Strange the Dreamer. I’m going to have to move it up in my TBR.
And heck yeah it’s going to be AMAZING. I just finished Serpent and Dove this month and HOLY FREAKING HECK IT WAS SO GOOD. I’m still trying to string my thoughts together because WOW.
I can’t wait to read your answers! 💙

I read Strange the Dreamer last year, and even though I loved it, I’m still so intimidated by Muse of Nightmares! I’m a huge fan of poetic writing though, so I hope that when I’m the mood for something a bit more flowery I’ll pick that book up despite how much it intimidates me!
And I think it’s awesome that you’ve managed to accomplish so many of the items on your list! I just finished with my spring semester, so maybe it’s time I make a list of things I want to accomplish for myself! The one thing I know would for sure go on there is cleaning/reorganizing my bookshelves! It’s been way too long since I last tended to all my books on there!

I’m so glad you loved Strange the Dreamer – you know I’ve had so many votes of confidence this posting this tag. 😂 Apparently everyone seriously LOVES this book and I need to finally roll up my sleeves and just read it. I hope Muse of Nightmares lives up to your expectations when you do pick it up!
And thank you so much, I had a month off work when Australia went into lock down and I knew I wanted to be productive with my time. Lists are also great for keeping yourself grounded and giving you that sense of accomplishment when the world feels like it’s ending. I would highly recommend writing that list! And funnily enough, cleaning and reorganizing my bookshelf was one of the first things I checked off. I always love playing around with my bookshelf!
Thanks for stopping by – Alexandra 💙

Omg yes I so want the three upcoming books that you mentioned. I still need to read Serpent & Dove but it sounds amazing 😍 and Where Dreams Descend is definitely in my top 5 most anticipated books of the year. I still need to read Strange The Dreamer but I have high hopes for it as I’ve loved what I’ve read by the author so far. And I hope you enjoy reading Nevernight. It sounds incredible and I definitely hope to get to it soon as well. I’m also super hyped for the authors upcoming series because…well vampires 😅

Honestly, I was happy to just skip over Serpent and Dove – hyped books just aren’t my thing – but I am so glad I didn’t because it was the book I never knew I needed. If you love Disney’s the Hunchback of Notre Dame it has a very similar theme and feel – it’s dark and gritty with a lot of religious overtones. Would highly recommend!
Happy reading! 💙

I knew I wanted to read it as soon as I read the blurb and saw a quote from it which was way back in 2019 I think and probably came before the hype 😂 with that in mind I have absolutely no idea how I haven’t read it yet 🙈 and really? I’d never have guessed. I did use to love the movie I think but haven’t seen it in years (should probably try and watch it again sometime). If you like The Hunchback Of Notre Dame I think Night Spinner was compared to it at one point (although I could be misremembering).
And thanks, you too ❤️

Ahhhhh idk if my achy breaky heart can deal with an anti-Shadowhunters post but considering what a good sport you’ve been about Nish & I RIPPING into books you’ve loved, I will suffer through it because that’s what saltmates do 😉💛 I can confirm that you absolutely have to be in the right mindset to pick up Strange the Dreamer – even though I loved the writing, I didn’t really find myself reaching for it & I kind of had to force myself to keep reading it 😅
💛 forever, your saltmate

Before you jump to conclusions I promise it won’t be an anti-Shadowhunters post… more a rambling about my weird as heck opinions. For some reason I hate the fan-favorite characters, adore the “meh” side characters and seem to ship the wrong couples??? It will be a light hearted post – pinky promise! 😉
Also – just remember: my body has never recovered from the time you and Nish RIPPED into After and DESTROYED all my credibility as a reviewer for giving After 4 stars. Good times. 😂😂😂
Sending you a big hug – love always, your saltmate 💙

How is it re-reading Mortal Instuments and what book are you on now?!! if you can’t already tell, I’m a HUGE fan and I hope your enjoying it especially Malec ❤️😂

So I read the original Mortal Instruments trilogy last month and I’m taking a brief stint into fantasy before launching into the Infernal Devices [I’m reading in publication order]. I’ve been struggling with a sort-of-reading-slump and needed to take a pause. Malec is actually so precious – I’m looking forwards to see how they progress because I’ve never finished City of Lost Souls. I’ll be sure to let you know what I think!
Thank you for stopping by! 💙
