The Sunshine Blogger Award celebrates community love and positive energy. It’s a great opportunity to highlight those dedicated to spreading sunshine and happiness. This is a peer nominated blog award and I’ve been very lucky [and humbled] to have been nominated not once, but now twice. I can’t express my gratitude enough – I work hard to keep Reading By Starlight a safe, positive environment. It’s a creative space to share my love of all things literary and it helped me find my people.

With that in mind, I have to send a big BIG hug to my “salt-mates” [you know, like soul-mates] Nish and Ngoc from Nish and Ngoc’s Book Nook. Nish and Ngoc deserve all the recognition because if only one blog could personify this award it would be Nish and Ngoc’s Book Nook. These girls are the definition of sunshine; spreading love with detailed, thoughtful comments which always leave me in stitches. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU guys! ❤

[If you don’t already follow them then what are you even doing with you’re life???]

1. How do you like to organise your bookshelf?

My bookshelves are my pride and joy. It’s a collection – no, a work of art I’ve been accumulating for years. Mine are cube shelves (purchased from Bunnings Warehouse with a side of coke and a sausage sandwich like the #trueblueaussie I am) organised via colour. While this might not be the most effect way to organise, it’s a serious look; a kaleidoscope of colour, taking up a entire wall in my bedroom. I’ve trimmed the shelves with my collection of Pop Vinyls and Cosmic Moon candles. Oh, then there’s my Lego Hogwarts Castle on top because I have no chill.

2. What was the last book you added to your TBR?

I just added A Treason of Thorns by Laura E. Weymouth. If I’m being 100% transparent here, I didn’t even read the blurb. I’m a simple person – I see a gorgeous cover, I add to TBR.

3. What’s your favorite ice-cream flavor?

Hands down Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. No other cookie dough ice-cream can ever compare and that’s the tea.

4. Do you prefer first or third person?

Me: First person is the actual best. Third person is just so boring! Like, I can’t get attached to the characters? First person is intimate. Third person reads so bland and feels detached from the action.

Sarah J. Maas: Hold my beer.

5. What was your last 5-star read?

Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson read like a atmospheric love letter to book lovers. I mean, the protagonist was a sword brandishing feminist who grew up in a gothic, Hogwarts-esque library. #enoughsaid.

6.  What is your least favorite book trope?

I’m kinda done with the whole dystopian-rebellion-trope. Maybe it’s just me, but it’s getting a little tired. I mean we all know how this book goes; there’s political and economical unrest, the seeds are sown and the protagonist finds him or herself at the center of the uprising. Basically if it’s not The Hunger Games or The Darkest Minds I don’t care.

7. Do you prefer physical books, e-books or audiobooks?

Physical books all the way. I honestly can’t even with e-books and audiobooks. Especially e-books. E-books are public enemy number one.

8. What’s a genre you consider outside of your comfort zone?

Horror. This simple, Disney loving cinnamon roll cannot handle horror of any kind. The last time I attempted to watch a scary movie [long story but my crush invited me to see The Haunting in Connecticut and well, you can’t say no to that] I had nightmares for weeks. Seriously. Also, I had to sleep with a light on and I couldn’t be left alone. Never again.

9. Are you a dog or a cat person?

Option C – none of the above. I am strictly a bunny kind of girl.

10. Where is your fave place to read?

Snuggled up in bed with a hot tea [or coffee if it’s the morning] and some Lindt chocolate. #livingmybestlife.

11. How does your star rating system work (if you use one?)

★★★★★: Oh my dear sweet lord – I can’t breathe. This is my new baby. Please excuse me while I stalk fan art and re-read over and over. Probably comes with a massive book hangover and/or a new book boyfriend too.
★★★★: Uh-Ma-Zing! This book is now sitting right smack on my favorites shelf. Still obsessing and/or reeling but perhaps one or two flaws that prevented a 5 star rating. Highly recommend.
★★★: Really enjoyed, this was a good read though not without its flaws. Probably a light and/or fluffy read or perhaps it didn’t quite click with me. Still recommend.
★★: Hmmm… Not feeling this one. It’s not terrible but for some reason or another I’m just not connecting with either the characters or story. Major flaws but perhaps a few enjoyable moments.
★: NOPE. WTAF is this cretin? I’m returning the book and getting my money back. Out for blood – what did I just do with my time and what is life?!?!?!

  1. AHHHHH LEXIE YOU’RE SO SO LOVELY WE CAN’T EVEN DEAL WITH YOUR COMMENTS 😭❤️❤️❤️ YOUR. BOOKSHELF. IS. FREAKING. ART. And the Lego Hogwarts castle? WE ARE DECEASED. So you’re gonna love this story – on the way back home from the Kimberley, we stopped at a petrol station & Ngoc wanted some ice-cream but they only had the B&J Choc Chip Cookie Dough flavour in the big pints so Ngoc went STUFF IT & split it with a friend on the bus. FOR BREAKFAST 😂

Hahaha oh we feel you about the horror genre – what is the actual point of scaring yourself to death when you could be reading about Liam Stewart trying to flirt 😍

LOVE YOU TO THE BOOKSTORE & BACK!!

    • Awwww! YOU GUYS! 😂 ❤ That means a lot because that bookshelf is my pride an joy. That and the fact that most of my savings are on that shelf… ahaha!

I actually love that Ben & Jerry's story because it's only further proof of our saltmate-y-ness. When I was travelling in the USA I ate an entire pint of cookie dough (yes that big one) for dinner before going to the air port. As you do, right? 😂 😂 😂

    • Thank you so much Marie – you’re too sweet! ❤ You know what they say about great minds… They think alike ahaha! Actually as I was writing I could barely stop drooling – all I wanted was that cookie dough! The only issue is that it's super expensive to buy a pint in Australia. 😦 That being said we do have a scoop shop in Melbourne that's my go-to summer spot. Thanks for reading x
