What is your favorite movie? Because I was so lost up there

Oh man, I feel like I should probably shut up about it now but I’m high key OBSESSED with Titanic. It’s been my favorite movie since I was sixteen. Okay, Leonardo DiCaprio is a freaking babe and I would climb like a tree but Jack Dawson aside, Titanic is a certified cinematic masterpiece. It’s seriously one of the best films to ever grace our screens. I mean, the sweeping romance, the edge-of-your-seat tension, the cinematography… *chefs kiss*.

#swoon

Honorable mentions: Australia, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang & Xanadu

Who’s your favorite author?

Am I actually Basic™ if I say Sarah J. Maas? Call her problematic but I am still 100% TRASH for her sexy, gritty fantasy worlds. I will read literally anything she writes [I’d probably even read her grocery list] and worship every word. There’s just something about the way she writes that’s just so all-consuming. Her world building is vivid, her love interests sexy AF and honestly, the sex scenes are lit. #noshame.

What is your favorite book from when you were a kid?

I remember being low key obsessed with all things Alice in Wonderland. I actually don’t remember what came first – the Disney movie of the book. All I know is I carried my dog-eared, mangy scholastic edition EVERYWHERE. I read that thing cover to cover over and over. I even had an Alice book of jigsaw puzzles.

What’s your favorite Disney movie?

Okay, first of all you can’t force me to choose just one favorite Disney film. Like, are you freaking kidding? Are you trying to be funny??? Not going to happen, buddy – this one’s a three tier answer.

Childhood favorite: The Little Mermaid. Man, six-year-old-Alexandra was OBSESSED. She might have also been 100% in love with Prince Eric. His baby blues had me WEAK.

Teenage favorite: Pocahontas. Hot off the heels of The Lion King, Pocahontas flew under the radar. Visually and musically, Pocahontas is a masterpiece.  Also, John Smith’s jawline could cut me in half.

Favorite cinematography: The Hunchback of Norte Dame. This is Disney’s most criminally underrated film. It’s also a little more adult. The religious and sexual undertones are INTENSE. Favorite scene? SANCTUARY!!! #chills.

Honorable mentions: Tarzan, Aladdin & Beauty and the Beast

What food will you absolutely not, under any circumstances, eat?

Mushrooms – Eww!

Do you listen to music while you read/write/study or do you prefer total silence?

I have an unhealthy addiction to music. You’ve got the occasion? I’ve got the best vibin’ playlist. I actually love to set the scene when I read with some ambiance. I especially love Michael Ghelfi’s RPG ambiances and epic fantasy music for reading.

What is the best book you’ve read so far this year?

Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas. This book was freaking PHENOMINAL. I don’t even think Midnight Sun could possibly top the hangover I experienced [but I guess we’ll soon find out]. Crescent City is a sprawling, complex novel of epic proportions. Sarah J. Maas basically outdoes herself blending a gritty urban fantasy world with a murder-mystery, buddy-cop twist. You can bet I’ll be re-reading it before the year’s finished.

☆ If you could be a supporting character in any book, which book would you choose? Who would you be?
☆ What are the three most played songs on your phone?
☆ Recommend a book with a romance that always makes you swoon.
☆ The most adventurous thing you’ve ever done.
☆ Do you read classics? What classic is your favorite?
☆ You’re favorite thing to do in self isolation.

  1. Thanks so much for the tag, Alexandra! I absolutely LOVE Titanic as well. I could literally watch it again and again and again. If I could only watch one movie for the rest of my life, I’d choose Titanic in a heartbeat.

I loved Crescent City too! It was so amazing, and SJM has truly outdone herself with her worldbuilding! I CANNOT WAIT for book two!

And ummmm… who the heck even likes mushrooms??? Yuck.

    Great answers! ❤

    • Oh my god – SAME!!! Like, who needs other movies when you can watch Titanic??? AND LEO???

I’m just seriously hoping that Sarah J. Maas doesn’t pull a Chaol or a Tamlin and make Bryce end up with that Demon Prince Guy because Hunt is MY MAN!!! 😍😍😍 [SCREW THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE ALREADY SHIPPING THEM – NOT ON MY WATCH!!!] 😂

And who the heck INDEED! 🙌🙌🙌

Sending much love – I can’t wait to read your post! 💙💙💙

  2. Definitely don’t feel ashamed for loving Titanic and the sex scenes in SJM books, I don’t think you’re alone there at all 😉 I actually had a very weird first viewing experience regarding Titanic because our edition had two DVDs, the first one of which was hidden behind a pamphlet featuring other movies. My siblings and I were so confused, but my brother swore there was no other DVD until we got to the end and nothing added up 😂 Thankfully, I’ve seen the movie in the right order a couple of times now, and love it 😊
And I’ll take your mushrooms! I don’t understand how people cannot like them; they are delicious!

  3. Titanic is a great movie. My favorite has to be Dirty Dancing. I could watch that one everyday!
Just one Disney movie is super hard to pick! I really love Pocahontas, Tarzan, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast as well, but also some newer movies like Moana and Frozen.
I looooove mushrooms! Can’t eat onions though. Ew.
    Great post! 🙂

    • Hahaha, you have GREAT taste in movies because Dirty Dancing is another one of my all time favorites. Patrick Swayze is just *chef’s kiss*. 😉

You know, I kind of skipped the whole Frozen hype initially. Don’t get me wrong – I loved the first movie but then it kind of blew up and I moved on. Frozen 2 on the other hand is MY movie. Like, you know when you find the perfect movie at the perfect time and it just clicks with you on a whole other level??? That was my Frozen 2 experience. Suffice to say, I’ve got a better appreciation for the first movie now!

Lol you can have ALL my mushrooms [I definitely still pick mine out of literally everything I eat at twenty-three. Yes, I’m a child.😂😂😂].

Thank you so much for stopping by, Jas! 💙

  4. Yes yes yes ! I absolutely LOVED Crescent City and I feel like i don’t stop going on about it. I also had an obsession with Alice In Wonderland 🙈 Great post – I really enjoyed reading your answers. I’m off to go and rewatch Hunchback of Notre Dame

    • Hahaha – the Hunchback of Notre Dame is ALWAYS the way to go! 😉

And yes, I honestly think Sarah J, Maas out-did herself with Crescent City. I mean, the character archs, the world building, the ROMANCE! Honestly the BEST book of 2020, hands down!

Thank you so much for reading, JJ! 💙

And i agree a 100% about Sarah J’s world building! I just started reading Throne of Glass series and OH MY GOD! I am actually mad at myself for not having picked it up earlier!😭😭😭😭😭

I LOVE THIS SOO MUCH, Alexandraaa!!! ❤️❤️❤️

    • AWWWWWWWWW – THANK YOU SO MUCH! 😍😍😍

I’m actually thinking it’s about time I do another read through of Alice – it’s been YEARS! It’s actually the perfect kind of wholesome content we need right now. Like, 2020? Screw that! I’m off to Wonderland!!!

So a fun fact for you: Throne of Glass was the series that prompted me to start blogging! I just had so many thoughts and feels and had to scream about it over the internet. I cannot WAIT to see what you think of the series! Especially because the scope of it all is truly epic! Crap – now I want to re-read it! AHAHAHA! 😉

Thank you for stopping by, Rain! 💙💙💙

  6. Oh my god, I’m so happy you did this post!!🥰 The whole time reading I was like YAS.
And, let’s be honest, didn’t we all have a crush on Prince Eric at some point. That little shit was a dumbass but he was real cute. Anywaaays, really need to read more SJM, honestly.

And you’re such an icon for making playlists. The only self made playlists I have are “kpop all genres” and music that’s either inspirational, lit af or angry put in one weird mush.
And I hope you’ll have a happy and inspirational stargazing🌌😂

    Liked by 1 person

    • I feel like Prince Eric was literally EVERYONE’s sexual awakening. LOL! 😂😂😂 But he was most definitely a dumb ass – probably just as stupid as Cinderella’s prince charming. Although… I guess Eric never got a ~proper~ look at Ariel so I’ll give him some credit.

Haha I’m not sure about being an icon but thank you so much! I love capturing a specific vibe or feeling with a soundtrack! I’ve got a summery/upbeat playlist with a lot of low-fi indie and surfpop for roadtrips and beach days. I’ve got a more chill/wintery playlist for camping or rainy days [it’s still very indie but a little more folk rock with some acoustic strings]. I’ve even made a playlist for COVID – very 80’s! I might have to do a post about it one day… 😉

Thank you again for the tag – I hope you’re having an amazing August! 💙💙💙

I guess music is subjective [my family hates mine!] but my favorite playlists are my upbeat/summery playlist with a lot of low-fi indie and surf pop, I’ve got a very chilled/wintery playlist with more folk and accousitic

        • Okay, okay – totally wasn’t thinking of Cinderella 3. 100% amending my opinions based on that scene alone. 😅

Actually fun fact: My brother and I are doing “Disney Fridays” and working our way though every singe Disney classic. We literally just did a Cinderella marathon and holy freaking heck he’s a serious ICON. “BUT THE TALKING MICE SAY SHE’S THE WRONG GIRL!!!”. 😂😂😂 [We’re up to Alice in Wonderland tonight!]

Okay – said COVID playlist might just make an ~appearance~ in this month’s wrap-up… 😉

            • Okay so I can’t really judge you because I watched the Emperor’s New Groove for the first time last year. I just knew it had a different vibe and I wasn’t sure it would be up my alley? BUT I’m happy to report that it’s now one of my all time favorites. Emperor’s New Groove is so light hearted and fun. Perfect for quarantine! Also, would 100% recommend a Cinderella marathon! 😉 💙

  7. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is such a great “ honorable mention”, I love that movie:) I still haven’t seen Titanic but I really need to get to that, lol.
Yess, The Little Mermaid was probably everyone’s childhood favorite. Now, like you, I’m a big Pocahontas and Aladdin fan 🙂
Congrats on the award and sorry you don’t love mushrooms. I carve them constantly 😂

    Liked by 1 person

    • Why the heck is literally EVERYONE telling me how yummy mushrooms are? Like, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE??? 😂😂😂 [But I will gladly give you my mushrooms! 😉 ].

And oh-my-gosh I am so excited to find another Chitty Chitty Bang Bang fan! Honestly, I feel like your childhood isn’t complete till you’ve seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and/or attempted the whole Doll on a Music Box thing. BUT, consider this an official nudge to watch Titanic. It’s only the most amazingly cinematic masterpiece ever. Also – LEONARDO DICAPRIO! #enoughsaid.

Thank you so much for reading, Lucy 💙

      Liked by 1 person

      • Hahah, Leonardo DiCaprio is in one of my favorite movies Inception so I’m sure I’ll love him in Titanic( I got your official nudge, I’m on it:) )!!

When I first saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, I was young and terrified of the kid catcher. But yes, that movie is nostalgic and that music box sense is EVERYTHING!!!!

        Liked by 1 person

        • AHHHHH THE CHILD CATCHER – holy heck that guy gave me actual NIGHTMARES. [Like, how did I even forget about him???]. 😱

You know, I actually got to see Titanic at the cinema last month and it was EVERYTHING. Shameless plug but if you need extra motivation I did a whole raving review thing. But Inception is a pretty good movie too! Pretty much anything with Leonardo Dicaprio is guaranteed to be epic. I DARE you not to fall in love with him as Jack Dawson. 😉

          Liked by 1 person

          • Hahahah, okay!! I accept the challenge but, knowing myself I’m pretty sure I will fail😂 Seeing Titanic in theatre sounds pretty amazing because I hear the cinematography is everything! 😂Okay now, I really need to get on seeing that 👍

  8. thank you so much for tagging me!! also, you don’t like mushrooms? omg i LOVE mushrooms 😭 okay, i don’t like some types, but for the most part i love them. but to each their own i’ve met so many people who hate mushrooms 🙈 and if i made it known that i don’t like rice, my asian card would probably be revoked :”)

    • OH MY GOSH – this ENTIRE comments section has literally been everyone telling me how much they love mushrooms. Like, YA’LL CAN HAVE ALL THE MUSHROOMS! 😂😂😂

But honestly, I almost spat my tea when you said you don’t like rice. Like, Asian card officially revoked! 😉

I can’t wait to read your post, lovely! 💙💙💙

  9. Thanks so much for the tag ❤ ❤ mushrooms are absolutely disgusting!! I loved Alice in Wonderland when I was younger, and then I rewatched the movie for the first time in like over a decade during quarantine and I was like… wth is happening lmao were the filmmakers high?? But it's still cute and I literally cannot hear the mad tea party song without being transported to Disneyland lol but I'm okay with that. (also while we're here lets talk about how much fun the Alice dark ride is especially as a kid! and im dying to go in the Alice maze in Paris, we don't have it here). Also also the Little Mermaid though was a childhood favorite and remains a current favorite its SO GOOD the music! the animation! prince eric! also… I have a confession to make……

…I've never seen hunchback of Norte dame… I'm sorry! I swear I'll get around to it… eventually…ill just leave now…

    • AHHHHHHH THANK THE LORD – literally EVERYONE has been telling me how much they love mushrooms and how amazing they are. And I’m over here like WTF??? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE??? YA’LL CAN HAVE ALL THE MUSHROOMS!!! 😂😂😂

So my brother and I have been doing “Disney Fridays” in quarantine. Basically we are working our way through the entire catalouge of Disney classics in order of release. We’re doing Alice tonight! It’s actually been forever since I’ve watched Alice so I’m super excited to rewatch it. The creators were 100% smoking something!

AND HOLY HECK I LOVE THE ALICE DARK RIDE – DISNEY DARK RIDES ARE THE BEST! I think the Alice dark ride is my favorite followed closely by Snow White and Peter Pan. That moment when you round the corner and the Queen turns around revealing the old hag? Yeah, totally peed my pants! [not actually but you get it 😂]. And nothing beats soaring over London in a pirate ship!

BUT how have you not seen the Hunchback??? I’M THINKING MOVIE NIGHT! Esmeralda is a QUEEN!

      Liked by 1 person

      • Mushrooms are straight up nasty blargh ugh I can’t. Eee I hope you enjoyed your Alice movie night!! that’s awesome that you have Disney Fridays with ur brother I’m by far the most disney obsessed in my family and am forever trying to talk people into watching the movies with me… with varying degrees of success…

The fantasyland dark rides are so iconic! I was terrified and half traumatized the first time I went on Snow White as a little kid haha, and Peter Pan is definitely my favorite (although literally wHY is the line always so long I almost never ride it because its great but not worth an hour wait!!) because literally flying!!

        I’ll get around to watching it… I swear…

        Liked by 1 person

        • When he’s not too keen on Sleeping Beauty [hahaha LONG story involving him being chased by the cast member in Disney World after he refused to have a photo with her – BEST DAY EVER. And I have the photos to prove it. He’s red as a beetroot! 😂😂😂] but I’ve managed to talk him into it!

And I can report that the Alice movie night was a success. It was one of my favorites when I was little but I think I’ve been really into the renaissance lately and I forgot just how amazing it is. I won’t be forgetting anytime soon! 😉

And yes that Peter Pan wait is almost as bad as Indiana Jones! Like WHY is it so long??? Can some one please explain??? 💙💙💙
